Interdisciplinary seminar on forest and landscape issues with particular emphasis on the key processes shaping the development of forest ecosystems and landscapes. Students perform literature researches, and train presentation and moderation techniques as well as a constructive feedback culture.
The course will proceed through a series of management concepts that will be applied to envrionmental case studies. Students will engage in individual and group work to practice the art of effective management, recommending a course of action for the individual and organization that is the subject of each case, gaining valuable insights into environmental management.
The course addresses environmental policies, focusing on new steering approaches, which are generally summarized as environmental governance. The course also provides students with tools to analyze environmental policy processes and assesses the key features of environmental governance by examining various practical environmental policy examples.

This course presents the basics of public policy analysis in relation to the environment. We present policy instruments, actors and processes both conceptually and empirically.For an additional credit point, students can write a term paper on an environmental topic applying concepts from environmental policy using qualitative content analysis.

Independent development of a written paper on an environmental topic, making use of concepts from environmental policy analysis by means of qualitative content analysis.
This course raises awareness of doctoral students to ethical issues that may arise during their doctorate. After an introduction to ethics and good scientific practice, students use resources that can assist them with ethical decision-making. Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and train their newly acquired skills in an interactive, discipline specific context.
